About Us
Benicia Black Lives Matter is a grassroots community group organized to address anti-Black racism in the city of Benicia.
There is a lack of Black representation across City leadership, departments, and voluntary boards.
The lack of Black representation tells a story of our complacency as a community and more so, the impact on our Black Benicians lived experience.
The good news is, we can rebuild the City of Benicia into a better Benicia, one commitment and one change at a time – and we have a strategy to do so.
Our Strategy: Actively Commit to Change. The City of Benicia must commit to a specific vision of what a better, more inclusive and equitable future looks like.

Goals
Benicia Black Lives Matter works to center and affirm Black people, advocating alongside Black Benicians for the rights and justice Black Benicians are denied. We stand in solidarity with other historically marginalized groups, and by improving the lived experience of Black Benicians, by extension improve the lived experience of all Benicians.
Benicia has the opportunity to be an example of what a government that takes anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion seriously can look like. Let’s work to ensure inclusion and accountability in our city government; to center those who are most impacted and marginalized; and to focus on utilizing the voices, advice, and lived experiences of Black Benicia residents and grassroots organizers from the BBLM group.
Asserting something so simple as the dignity of one group of people does not take away from the dignity of another. The goal is not to raise one group above another. Rather, it simply raises all groups to a place of equity where there were previous imbalances in policies, practices, behaviors, and beliefs.
